Our approach
The shape of the work.
Every engagement looks different on the surface. Beneath the surface, they all follow the same shape — a trauma-informed core, a measured rhythm, a clear hand-off. This is what stays true regardless of the tier or the gemstone.
Trauma-informed throughout
The work asks the whole of everyone.
A practice, not a deliverable — the difference matters more than the language usually carries.Trauma-informed care is not a deliverable. It is the operating principle underneath every conversation, every system, every workshop. The way we work mirrors the way we ask our clients to work with the people they serve — and we believe that consistency is what makes the practice durable.
In practice this means: we don't extract information; we earn it. We don't diagnose your team in the first hour; we sit with you long enough to see what's actually happening. We don't deliver an org chart that ignores the human cost of restructuring. We work at a pace that respects what's load-bearing.
This shapes every other part of how we engage. Discovery moves slowly on purpose. Workshops are designed for emotional safety as much as content delivery. SOPs assume the people executing them are doing hard work, often alone, often with limited resources. The systems are built around that reality, not in spite of it.
The four-phase rhythm
Every engagement breathes the same way.
Tier defines depth and duration. Rhythm stays consistent.
Phase 01
Discover
We learn your organization on its own terms. Stakeholder conversations, financial review, current-state mapping. We arrive with questions, not a template — and we leave this phase with a shared diagnosis we both agree to.
Typical durationWeeks 1–3
Phase 02
Align
From the diagnosis we co-author the engagement plan: which workstreams move, who owns them, how success is measured. Written down, signed off, referenced weekly. Plans that live on a shelf are plans we don't write.
Typical durationWeeks 2–4
Phase 03
Build
The active work — training, systems, fundraising activation, brand, whatever the engagement scope calls for. Cadence reviews keep momentum visible. We move at the pace your team can absorb, not the pace that flatters our timeline.
Typical durationWeeks 4 onward
Phase 04
Sustain
The systems transition into your team's full ownership. Documentation lands. Final training closes. We stay reachable for a defined window after the engagement formally ends — but the work belongs to you.
Typical durationFinal 30 days
Designing to leave
We are not trying to become indispensable.
Every system we install is built for your team to own. SOPs are written so someone two years from now can read them and execute. CRMs are configured with the workflows your staff actually uses, documented in plain language. Fundraising rhythms come with templates and training so the lift transfers.
We measure our success by what survives without us. The engagement ends. The work continues. That is the point.
Consultants who design themselves into the architecture have not earned their fee. They have built dependency.
What we ask of each other
Both sides have to show up.
These engagements work when they are mutual. We are clear about what we owe you, and what we'll need from you in return.
What you can expect from us
- Honest assessments — including when we think the answer is 'don't do this yet.'
- Punctuality, written follow-up, and decisions documented in plain language.
- Specificity calibrated to your organization, not generic frameworks repurposed.
- Trauma-informed practice in every workshop, every system, every conversation.
- Designs that hand off cleanly. We do not architect ourselves into permanence.
What we'll ask of you
- Honest context — including the parts that are unflattering or in flux.
- A named decision-maker who can move when work needs to move.
- Time and attention from the people the work will affect, not just leadership.
- Patience with phases that move slowly on purpose, especially Discover.
- Pushback when something doesn't land. We need it, and we don't take it personally.
Begin a conversation
See if the shape fits.
The discovery call is where we test whether the rhythm of the work matches what your organization needs right now. No pressure to decide on the call — both of us should sit with it.
